Export text as dxf

Hello everyone!

I just wrote a text in Illustrator that I would like to export as a dxf file to cut on my plasma machine. I have previously exporter dxf files out of svgs i opened in illustrator. But when i try to do the same on text, the option to export as a dxf simply does not appear. 

This is what I do :

1. I write the text and adjust the size in inches

2. I press shift+ctrl+O to create outlines

3. I try to save as/export as and fail to find the dxf option.

I know im missing a step and i cant figure out which one.

If anybody could help me i would greatly appreciate it and be super thankful.
