Question

Exported SVG’s Viewbox and XY are Scaled Down

Hi everyone,

I’m working with very large artwork (around 50,000 px wide) in Illustrator. When I export to SVG, Illustrator automatically scales down the viewBox (for example, from width="51530" height="7355" to viewBox="0 0 5153 735.5").

This changes the XY coordinates in the SVG, but I need the original artboard dimensions and absolute XY coordinates preserved.

Is there a way to export SVG from Illustrator without this automatic scaling, or is this a limitation of Illustrator?

Thanks!

What is the artwork size in terms of inches? If the Illustrator document was set up as a large canvas document (a size greater than 227" in either direction) it's likely the exported artwork is being saved to 10% of its original size.
