Exporting 100% Black | CMYK Color Mode | Recolor Artwork !?

Hey everyone!
I'm dealing with an 80 artboards file with multiple layers and groups. The file is complete and need to be exported for screen viewing, after having already exported a PDF for printing (printed the pages and everything went smoothly).

Unfortunately, when exporting the PDF all of the blacks are a bit dull, especially when it comes to hatches and fills. My guess is that I've made a mistake using a Black that's not completely black:

C: 0
M: 0
Y: 0
K: 100

instead of

C: 100
M: 100
Y: 100
K: 100

Unfortunately Illustrator doesn't work like InDesign and even by changing the single swatch named Black (not a global one) I can't really make any changes to the objects in the file.

I've also tried recoloring my artwork, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Also, I can't select all of the black objects, because:

- I'm dealing with a lots of groups

- I need to change both fills and strokes

- I have multiple layers

Any hints?

Hi. You can try the "Select > Same > Fill color" and "Select > Same > Stroke color" commands to select and change the colors.

Thank you very much @marliton . This method actually worked, even if I lost some trasparencies... (strange, but I'll tweak them again).

If you're viewing on screen are you converting to rgb? And if so what color profile conversion are you using?

Dear @Met1 I've tried both covnerting to Document CMYK and to Document RGB... but nothing changes because the issue is related to having set all of the blacks to 0,0,0,100 and not 100,100,100,100 (CMYK) or 0,0,0 (RGB).

In "Recolor artwork" you have change the options so black gets changed. It is protected by default. Please refer to the manual.

In Illustrator the default swatches are not global. So maybe that explains your issues with changging the swatch

Setting up black as 100/100/100/100 for print will get you in deep trouble.

Dear @Monika Gause I've already printed my document and I don't need to do that anymore.

The only thing I need to do right now is exporting all of the artboards in deep black (100%) in RGB mode. How can I do that if I've been working all the time on a CMYK document with all the blacks set di 0,0,0,100?

What do you mean by "you have to change the options" referring the "Recolor artwork"?

Before exporting, change the document color mode to RGB.

Then change the colors to RGB 000

Then export

Please read the documentation about how to edit the "Recoloring options" (it's a very tiny button in the Recolor artwork dialog box).
