eyedrop in illustrator

hello everyone 

 

i have an issue when i grab my eyedropper oustside illustrater whatever the color i picked the results only black color i press down the shift and release after i pick the color but only shown to me the black color 

i'm using window 11

Maryams, Hi.

 

I’m an Apple user.

To eyedropper outside of Illustrator, I have to give my computer permission to do so, otherwise I would only get black.

System Preferences>Security &Privacy>Privacy>Screen Recording. Allow Photoshop and Illustrator.

 

Perhaps a Window user can help you further.

You did not say what programs outside of Illustrator that you are using. However, if it is InDesign that you are trying to sample color in then I can suggest some things to try. Make sure that there is no other text or graphic frame above the Illustrator object that you are trying to sample from. The sample will read as black if there is another frame above it. Also if the graphic frame is locked then you will not be able to sample the color and it will read as black. If you've placed the Illustrator art on a Parent page then the frame containing it would be locked on all document pages that that contain that frame. In that case go to the Parent page to sample the color.
