eyedropper+Shift converting text to shape error

So when I'm trying to capture the locked text color to recolor another text or shape with the eyedropper tool, it creates outlined layers of the text I'm trying to capture the color from (and keeps the original text there), what is this exactly???

* It most likely to happen when the whole layer is locked (not on the object only).

Good to hear that.

Just to confirm Ton's conclusion: It's a bug.

And obviously a terrible one that was probably introduced in Illustrator 30.1.

The bug does not occur in version 29.8.2.

Looks like the bug was introduced with the new color picker sampling ring.

Agreed, but the bug also appears when the ring is disabled in the application preferences.

Even worse.

@Mosa Turman that looks like a bug. It is easy to replicate with a locked layer and just dragging the eyedropper while holding down the Shift key. It will create multiple outlined groups.
