Eyedropper tool flickers to arrow curser

Eye dropper tools flickers between arrow curser and the eyedropper tool when the tool is moving. When it is in the precision selector is just flickers on and off. It's very challenging to use. I noticed an older thread that mentione 3rd party plugins being the culprit but I don't think I have anything like that. Thought on how to trouble shoot this?

Hi Erica,

it might be some graphics card issue. Have you checked if there are drivers available? If you try to turn off the GPU acceleration does the problem persist?

Hi there. I am MacOS Monterey. The graphics is AMD Radeon Pro 5300 and I don't think there are any new drivers. I have turned off GPU acceleration and the problem persists. Actually now that I'm looking at it, ALL tools flicker when they are being moved. I just noticed it more with the eyedropper tool because it switches between arrow and eyedropper.

Hello EricaSholycow,

Sorry to hear about this experience. Kindly try turning off "Animated Zoom," "GPU Performance," & "Real-Time Drawing and Editing" from Illustrator's Preferences under Performance and check if it helps.

Also, try resetting Illustrator's preferences manually by following these steps and share your observations:

• Close all Adobe applications.
• Go to the following locations
• ~/Library/Caches
• ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
• ~/Library/Preferences
• Rename Adobe Illustrator, com.adobe.illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 26 Settings folders to Adobe Illustrator.old, com.adobe.illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator 26 Settings.old
• Launch Illustrator from the Creative Cloud.

Note: Location starting with this "~" sign indicates the User Library, which is hidden. So, you need to copy & paste the exact path in spotlight search or from Finder Menu > Go > Go to Folder > Paste the location in the dialog box like this:

Disclaimer: Please note that renaming preferences folders will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. The location is mentioned above.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Anubhav
