Question

Failed DXF AAMA Import in Illustrator

Hello @7456199 Team,

I am trying to import DXF AAMA files in Adobe Illustrator, but it seems like Illustrator does not support this standardized file format at all. This DXF file format is commonly used in the fashion industry for 2D CAD pattern construction and it should be possible to open it in Adobe Illustrator for further postprocessing. Please provide help and guidance to this matter.

Attached please find the DXF AAMA standardization which is the basis of the DXF file formats I need to import in Adobe Illustrator. I would also have added the DXF files, but Adobe does not support the upload of DXF files within the attachement section 😞 ....

Thank you in advance!

Illustrator uses a standard Autodesk module for export and import.

Hi Monika, thank you for this information. So if I understand you right, the DXF-files which are supported by Adobe are standardized Autodesk DXF-file formats. Is there any technical specification sheet for this kind of DXF-file format for rebuilding or conversion?
Do you know why Adobe is not supporting DXF AAMA/ ASTM files in Adobe Illustrator and just focus on DXF based on Autodesk?

It's a library that they have implemented and I assume that it's just easier to use a library than to build your own import. See here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/dwg-dxf-files-are-unable-to-open-after-updating-latest-versions-2021/m-p/12503989

If you still have an older version of Illustrator (2020 or 2021 I think), then you have the old import functionality. Or try the plugin by BabyUniverse (not for free)
