You can try to limit the area you are using for your brush.

Create a shape and use Shift D (2 times) to Draw inside.

Maybe try a clipping path instead of an opacity mask. Put the shape you want in front of the dots. Select the shape and the dots. Then go to Object > Clipping Mask > Make. The result exposes the dots within the overlapping shape.

Thanks for the advice,   here is the result ( the 2nd pic ) I get this way. It's getting closer to what I want. I know I'm bothering you but I will like the points on the outside of the nose , but I have to know both ways !!

But that's not exactly it, I show you a video tutorial, which I tried to follow, but it's not possible to have the same result ..

( From 6:00': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70aYuRbjoFE )

I tried to draw inside, but that does not give me the exact result, but thanks for the technique, it's good to know !

So do you need assistance with the technique described by Ton? Or with the tutorial?

Either way: you will have to draw additional shapes that you can use for masking. The existing shapes won't do.
