Faster image cropping possible?

Hi There,

I've always used masks to crop images but it's farily convoluted comapred to say InDesign.

Is there a way to crop images that's faster then masking? The crop image option (from the top bar when an image is selected) resets everytime you want to re-crop an image which is a time waster. Also, I can't find a way of activating it with a modifier (like CMD + SHIFT Drag Handle etc) to speed things up.

Any help or suggestions welcome.

Maybe you are seeing the results of the Content Aware Defaults option, which tries to suggest the "best" possible crop.

You can turn that off in the Preferences.

so you Crop an image then you need to crop it again? I see what you mean, the crop area shifts when one tries to re crop an image.

it's easier to adjust the cropping area using a Clipping Mask

1. select the image and the clipping path, then press Ctrl/Cmd + 7 to make a clipping mask

2. to re crop, select the clipping path on the layers panel and adjust with the Selection Tool (V)

if you don't want to use the Layers panel

2 select the masked image with the Selection Tool (V),

3. press Ctrl + Shift and click on the image to deselect it

4. that should leave you with the Clipping Path selected, adjust as needed

So this is what I do now, but it's obviously a hack comapred to say InDesign, where you get a bounding box and cropping on every image with no extra work.

Also, clipping masks are generally annoying as the direct selection tool 'sees' whatever is masked.

Will continue with clipping masks. Cheers and thanks for the replies.

You can assign a custom keyboard shortcut to the Object menu > Crop Image command (see Edit menu > Keyboard Shortcuts).

Not quite sure what you mean by "resets everytime you want to re-crop an image". Can you clarify?
