Feature Request: Smart Font Browser with Folders & Advanced Filters in Illustrator

Proposal: Improving the Font Browser in Adobe Illustrator

Current Issues:

  • Significant difficulty browsing a large number of fonts due to the list-only view.

  • Lack of dynamic, interactive preview directly within the workspace.

  • Existing search and classification tools are limited and lack smart filtering (e.g., by language, style, or usage).

Proposed Solutions:

  • Advanced Font Filtering
    • Classify fonts by language (Arabic, Latin, etc.).
    • Filter by style (Serif, Sans Serif, Script, Handwriting).
    • Filter by usage (branding, long text, headlines)

  • Folder-Based Font Browsing
    • Introduce folder view as the primary browsing option, similar to panels (patterns, shapes) in Photoshop.

    • Allow creation of custom folders, moving fonts between them, and renaming folders.

  • Flexible Favorites Management
    • Make favorites folder-based instead of a flat list.

    • Support organizing favorite fonts into different groups depending on project or usage.

Benefits for Users:

  • Faster workflow and reduced time wasted testing fonts one by one.

  • Enhanced design experience, especially for multilingual projects.

  • More organized and professional environment for designers.

Thank you, @Abhishek Rao , for the clarification and support 🙏.
I’ll update to the latest Illustrator 30.1 release and test the new font browsing improvements, especially the smart filtering and workspace previews.
After trying them out, I’ll share additional feedback on how well these features work for multilingual projects and favorites organization.

Hi @Mr.YassinNM,

Thanks for sharing your detailed feedback. I'd recommend updating to the latest version of Illustrator 30.x, where the current release is 30.1

(if you are not currently on it). The product team has made major improvements to font browsing in this version, including smarter filtering, better previews, and improved organization options that should address the challenges you mentioned. You can check out the full details in this community announcement and the Helpx article here:

Once you've updated, please try it out and let us know how the new experience works for you.
