File-->New, Recent is BLANK

I can see recent files on the home page. However, when I go to create new and use my 'Recent' it is completely blank. This is the second time this has occurred, and is quite frustrating.

What gives? How do I repopulate this?

There are just no files?

Or is there no interface element at all?

All templates are gone and there would be no interface for creating a new template if I hadnt set up a new 11by17.
