Fill color is not applied after drawing a shape

When drawing shapes with the Pencil I have a fill color selected in my Toolbox, though after drawing the shape the color is not applied and I have to select the shape and it shows as not having a fill and I have to select a new color apply a fill to the shape. It wasn't like this before so I must have changed some setting. What do I change to get it to just apply the fill color in the Toolbox after drawing a shape?
