Question

Find (and close) open paths in illustrator

Hi,

Anyone who knows how to quickly find open paths that need to be closed? I'm working on a project with many objects and over hundred open paths. The tutorials with plugins and scripts I can find no longer work.

Thanks so much.

The link has stopped working. Do you have a new link to download this script? THanks

I don't know if you're still looking for it, but this link might help

You mean: just find all open paths?

Or

Find those open paths that actually need to be closed (perhaps because they have a stroke applied)?

Astute Graphics FindReplace can find all open paths

And their PathScribe panel can then close them

RJ-Grafix Select menu also can find all open paths.

You would then need a script to close them.

In some cases you could perhaps just create a live paint group to close them (and then expand), but this will change the stacking order in your document which might be something you do not want.

Additional note on Astute Graphics' plugins, the Vector First Aid plugin can automatically find and fix paths that are barely open. A path that is broken open at an anchor point position can be joined automatically. Redundant points and pairs of points very close to each other can be fixed. Points that are axis-alignable can be straighted. The plugin will let the user fix everything with one click or fix issues in the list that are selected.
