"Fit To Selected Art" option doesn't work well

I tried resizing my artboard to match my object's size and it seems they don't match.

My square object is 50 px x 50 px, and the arboard size is 60 px x 60 px. How to solve this? I didn’t struggle with this issue before.

Attaching the evidence. Thanks for replying and sharing your solutions

I guess the square is filled with a Freeform gradient.

If so, the reason for the issue is that Freeform gradient objects have extended bounding boxes for some reason (you can usually see it by turning on the Use Preview Bounds option in the Align panel).

You are facing this (mis-)behaviour since the bounding boxes are the basis for the "Fit to" commands.

Hello @davormr

Sorry for the late reply. I hope the suggestions our experts shared earlier helped resolve the problem. If not, kindly confirm the version of Illustrator installed and share a sample file, so we can investigate further.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yes, I think this was the “issue”. I tried with a solid color and the resize artboard matches perfectly with the size of my selected object. Thanks for explaining.

Are you 110% sure there isn’t an object underneath the blue shape?

Hello, Dave! Nope, there were no other objects underneath the square shape. Kurt had the answer above. Thanks for replying though!

Can you share the file before fitting to the art?

Did you already restart your machine and try it with a new file?

Hello, Ton! Nope, I think it wasn’t necessary for this case. Kurt had the answer above. Thanks for replying though!
