Font keeps changing when typing.

I've been experiencing a type issue...
In the past, Illustrator will continue using whatever contextual font, weight, etc. is present. 
Recently, though, there are times where illustrator will change weight (or font) automatically once I start typing. 

Is this a setting that needs to be changed somewhere? It's driving me a little bit crazy! Thank you.
