I was at Adobe Max and one of the new features was a tool in AI that could identify a font from a jpg/ flat image. I cannot find this in AI CC 2018. What is the process?

Could you be  asking of the feature that came out in  2015 for photoshop?

    Highlight the type with marquee

    Type >> Match Font

As Kris said there are web sites where you can upload a jpeg of type and it will show you samples of possible fonts. Another one to try is What Font is | WhatFontis.com which I usually prefer because it will give you 100 suggestions to choose from.

Thanks, I know about those websites, and they're great. This was a new feature discussed at Adobe Max.

I haven't heard of that being built into Illustrator, but have you heard of What the Font?
