generative AI in Illustrator

I try to create a portrait in pencil strokes of a photograph and I can't get it to respect the model of the photo. I've been doing tests for 3 hours and I've gotten close but it's not what I'm looking for. Could you help me with any advice? Thank you.

If you want to make a photo into a pencil drawing, use Photoshop for that. There are dozens of tutorials that show you how to do it. You do not need AI for that (and also with AI it won't work anyway).

    It would have taken considerably less than 3 hours to simply lock the photo on a layer in Photoshop and then hand-draw/trace new pencil strokes on a layer over the photo. A stylus and Wacom tablet or even an iPad and Apple Pencil would make the process fairly easy.

    If you don't have either, that method could get complicated.
