Question

GPU Performance - Block ctrl + Y option

The Ctrl+Y keyboard shortcut (Outline/Preview mode) is unresponsive in Adobe Illustrator when GPU Performance is turned on. Disabling GPU Performance resolves the issue, but this workaround is not viable for large projects due to performance degradation.

Steps taken:

  • Confirmed the shortcut works when GPU Performance is disabled
  • Updated graphics drivers to latest version
  • Issue persists across restarts

Request:
Is there a solution that allows me to keep GPU acceleration enabled while restoring Ctrl+Y functionality?

With no document window open check in the Menu Commands section in Keyboard Shortcuts (Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts) under the View Options that the shortcut for accessing GPU and CPU Preview (the shortcut toggles between the two modes) is set for Command (Mac)/Control (PC)-E rather than Command (Mac)/Control (PC)-Y. If it is set incorrectly then change it and click on OK. Then immediately quit the program. When you relaunch the fix should be in place.

    Hi @Shawn Gameiro Costa,

Thanks for reaching out, and I'm sorry you're experiencing this issue.

Could you please confirm your Illustrator version (Help > About Illustrator), your operating system and version, and your GPU model? Also, does View > Outline work from the View menu, or is only Ctrl + Y affected? Does the issue occur in a brand-new blank document as well? If you're on Windows, could you also try pressing Ctrl + E followed by Ctrl + Y and let us know if that works as a temporary workaround?

Additionally, if you haven't already, please reset your Illustrator preferences using the steps in this article: https://adobe.ly/45vVQqL. If your system has both integrated and dedicated graphics, please also verify that Illustrator is using the dedicated GPU. Ref: Troubleshoot GPU performance in Illustrator | Illustrator

Please let us know the results, and we'll be happy to investigate further.

So are you referring to the Outline view not being available at all, because the shortcut doesn’t work or to the Outline View being too slow?
