Question

Gradient Mesh breaking when scaled/moved

This bug has been around for a while. When scaling objects that have a mesh gradient (or even sometimes just moving and rotating them) the gradient will 'break' and randomly remove some of the nodes.

The current workaround is to expand the fill, but this then renders it uneditable (so no re-colorization etc.)

Please sort this out Adobe.

Hello @Phil_RD,

Could you share more details, like the version of the OS/Illustrator installed, and a small screen recording of your exact workflow and the problem, so I can check this with the team?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Jumping in here - this happens constantly for me as well. Extremely frustrating.

Judging from your video you are rather talking about freeform gradients, not gradient mesh objects.

Since their introduction freeform gradient fills tended to be unreliable, especially when transforming their base paths.

I've seen countless weird behaviours and would still absolutely recommend to not use them in crucial production environments.

Gradient meshes, on the contrary, are quite stable.
