Gradient Trees help!

Hi All! I have a vector graphic of some pine trees, that I am trying to get to look like these trees with red to black gradient. I tried the gradient and gradient mesh without much luck. Could someone help me fugger this out?? Thanks!!

Then perhaps try playing with the blending modes to see if you can get it to look the way you want.

It is really hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like a tree is either red or black and perhaps a blending mode is added to let the black show through the red. Can you get a photo straight on so we can see better?

I don't think that there is just a gradient applied on that car. There is some texture in the trees as well. But it would help to have a better photo.
