Question

Gradients and Objects with opacity are now automatically creating mask?

After the recent update I'm having an issue with objects that have a gradient that fades to anything less than 100% opacity and objects with less that 100% opacity masking out the objects below them instead of showing through. I work as a screenprint graphic designer and I'm specifically using a spot color red radial gradient, fading from 100% at the edges to 0% in the middle with a solid white object underneath that I want to show through but instead it is masking it and showing the background. I've tried stacking multiple objects and still shows all the way to the background instead of objects underneath. Not sure if there was a setting automatically changed during the update or what is going on....

Try View >> Overpriint Preview.

Does this show to be true using  window >> separation preview? Trying to deteremine if thsi is a screen redraw issue.

Can we see a scxreenshot with the stop settings for gradient.

Yes, even in Overprint Preview and using Separation Preview it still masks out bottom object. Including screenshot of object and gradient settings. There is a solid white object underneath the gradient that is being masked out, also tried changing the color and properties of the bottom object but had no affect.

Please show the layers panel and appearances for the objects. Also where the knockout group is applied.

And since knockout groups are badly affected by GPU preview, please do also check the CPU view.

Ok, I fixed it. Still not sure what was going on but there is an option under opacity called Knock Out Group that I did not select and did not show a checkmark that it was activated but a "-" which I'm guessing is the inverse of the usual function but it even though it was showing the inverse it was functioning like it was checked to have Knock Out Group active. Switching it on and off did nothing but creating another copy of the object outside of the group, pasting it in, and deselecting the option finally fixed it. Not sure what is causing this bug.
