Grain in layer, but No Sign of Effect in Appearance Panel

I am putting a Gradient in my backmost layer by creating a rectangle, then applying the gradient.

Days earlier, I did this and applied a grain effect, but I chose the type of grain effect with color noise, so I deleted it and started over.

The new rectangle continues to have these color noise grain effects, but there is no sign of those effects being applied in the Appearance panel.

I've deleted and retried this a few times with no solution, closed and reopened the program in case what I was viewing was a lag of some sort, but it doesn't seem that way.

Correct answer Ton Frederiks

There is an effect applied to the layer.

If you look at the appearance panel, you will notice that the top item "Layer" has an fx icon to the right.

Click that Layer item and you will be able to tremove the effect.
