Question

Grouping issues when I undo, or when I save and close and then reopen the document.

Hi, I keep having grouping issues between elements in my artboard.

I have designed an app whose elements I grouped and subgrouped —in a nested way. When I was done, this first design has been duplicated several times in this same artboard, and I have been working and developing these duplicates during the design process.

So I kept working this way, but then when I undo one or several recent actions, some of the graphic elements are all of a sudden grouped to other elements that exist in previous designs that are coexisting in this same artboard.

I am paying for a very expensive subscription software whose bugs are not being fixed, release after release, rendering this app unusable. When this bug happens, and it's been happening for a looong time, I have to ungroup these now grouped objects, or even do the old "cut and paste in place" in order to extricate them from this new group that it's been automatically created. Please fix this, thanks.

Are they really grouped or do they only show that way? There's an issue with selecting objects, that the bounding box randomly encloeses other objects. Can you check in the Layers panel if they are really grouped?

Do you copy objects while in Isolation mode and then paste them? This also could produce issues in vertain versions.

Which version are you using?

Do you reboot the computer regularly?

Hi Monika, they are grouped because they all move like they are grouped if I move them, even though sometimes I can't simply 'Ungroup' them and I have to cut and paste in place to extricate them from each other. I will check the layers panel when this happens again, but as I said, they seem grouped.

I copy and paste while in Isolation Mode, but not between different object groups that were duplicated long ago.

I'm using version 27.1.1

I reboot regularly. In any case, this issue has been happening for long months.

Can you list the exact steps to produce this error in a new document?

Hi Doug, they are already explained in my post, I cannot really make more sense of it because sometimes the bug cannot be reproduced. Usually it goes like this.

1. I create a kind of complex design with nested groups of objects.

2. I duplicate this design, usually by selecting the whole thing and option+drag.

3. I keep developing the design and duplicating it in the same way, in order to keep older versions visible in my artboard.

4. At some point, I undo once or several times consecutively, and Object Group A' gets suddenly grouped with Object Group A coexisting in the same artboard.

This also happens sometimes when I open this document when I start my work session: I select Object Group A' and somehow it has been grouped with Object Group A in this same artboard.

Is it possible for you to produce the bug in an example document?

I know it must be frustrating, but if a bug cannot be reproduced it is nearly impossible to solve. You must understand that there are many variables here: you say you create "a kind of complex design" (what kind? can it be replicated with a 'simple' design?) with "nested groups of objects" (how many levels of nesting? does it matter?), then you "keep developing the design" (in what way? again, does this matter for the bug or do you just need to keep copying the groups?), then "undo once or several times consecutively" (in either instance? what action are you undoing?). You mention 'Object Group A' -- are you naming these groups or is this just for our example?

I could create and copy nested groups all day long and never encounter this bug because some variable is different.

Can you share a file where this has occured?
