Guassian blur problem with cropping image size

When I create my art projects, there are always elements that overlap the finished size of the final art image. I have never had a problem croping the overlaping elements using pathfinder crop. This art composition that I am trying to finish now however, has some elements that didn't crop. I then realized that those elements are all the ones that I applies gausian blur effect. I have never used that effect in my work before, at least in connection with overlap and cropping. I can't figure out how to crop this image now becuase of this problem. Everthing else gets cropped but those elements. It's frustrating!

Effects like a drop shadow, for example, do not crop out. You would have better luck using a clipping mask for situations such as these.

Does a clipping mask work for you instead of crop?
