Question

Guides disappearing in Illustrator 29.1

I'm running Illustrator 29.1 on an M1 Mac running Sonoma 14.3.1. I rely a lot on guides, but they keep disappearing when I'm trying to set them. Has anyone else experienced this? I just downloaded the latest Illustrator, and this new feature is wild and crazymaking. Thank you!

Hello @mich.leclair53,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing more details of your exact workflow, including a screen recording of the problem if possible, so I can better assist you?

Also, try to reset Illustrator's preferences as described in this article (https://adobe.ly/3BElHSl) and share your observations.

Disclaimer: Please note that renaming preferences folders will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also save a backup of the folders, the location of which is mentioned above.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi! Thank you for replying. I can't show a screen recording of what I'm
working on because of an NDA. Another issue I've noticed is that when I set
a zero point and drag a guide from the ruler, the ruler reverts back to its
default setting. Rulers and guides are incredibly important to this kind of
work, so the most recent version of Illustrator definitely has serious
issues in that respect. Maybe it's something that can be fixed in updates.

I don't think it's a corrupted preferences issue because I've just started
using this version of Illustrator, but I'll try resetting the preferences.

Thank you!

Is this happening just in one particular file?

You could try and turn off "Real time preview" in the Illustrator Preferences.
