I use Illustrator already half a year, before I was usind CorelDraw.
I would never come back ti CorelDraw, but there are some things that I dont like in Illustrator, I'll describe my pain.
The handle colour is always blue automatically, now I'm working with the organization where they use this colour like thir style colour, so when I'm adjusting points, they are same blue and I cant see them. I could change them only to white and blue, but while using handles the anchors are still blue.
You can change guides and greed colour, also smart guides, but you cant change selection colour.

It seems you always work with layers 1.

Because of: anchor points and handles uses its parent layer color.

Example:

Your file has only standard layer 1 with some paths within. The "selection color" is medium blue.

Now create a new layer (layer 2) - select all your paths and drag them into the new layer 2.

--> now the "selection color" has changed to red.

So it's possible to change the colour only by switching layers. Thank you!

Hi Jaroslav,

... or as @Monika Gause wrote: change the layer colour of the parent layer directly.
Yes, these are the simplest of the possible ways. (And the same goes for paths in sublayers).

Scripts can also change the colours as desired, but IMHO there is no way to access the 27 set default colours via script.

Double click the layer in the layers panel and change the color.
