Help! Formatting lost when converting Ai file to PDF

I converted a file from Illustrator to PDF and my formatting got messed up. I tried editing in the PDF but I was unable to do so.

I've used this file before and this is the first time it's happened.

Also, my Illustrator file automatically converts to PDF when I save it. I'm not sure if that has something to do w this but I welcome any advice on how to stop that.

Thx!

When saving as PDF, make sure that 'Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities' is checked.

You'll only be able to reliably edit the PDF with Illustrator.

WHich version, which system?

Exactly where do you save your files?

What kind of files do you save and which options do you use?

How do you determine that your file has been converted to PDF?

Did the messing of formatting happen in the PDF or only when you opened the PDF back in Illustrator?
