Help me create a perfect circle, please!!

Hi folks this may sound very simple but I'm using the trial version of AI head to head against Corel Draw. AI is generally a better programme apart from one thing that will ultimately stop me from subscribing if I can't work it out.

When I use the ellipse tool to draw a circle it uses a paintbrush to form the circle. this is not what I need! I need smooth edges. I've spent four hours so far trying to work this out, which is leading me to believe either I'm incredibly stupid or AI is not really as intuitive as it should be.

I can't seem to find any tutorials on how to change this, so wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Tim

that's not a brush. it's artifacts caused by a GPU performance bug. turn it off to check (view > preview on CPU, or Edit > Preferences > Performance)

    Hi,

Try pressing L for the Ellipse Tool

Next be sure you have a fill colour and a stroke set to Non.

You set your stroke to non by clicking on the Stoke at the bottom of your Tool palette and then pressing the white box with the diagonal red line through it.

Now you can draw a smooth circle with the Ellipse Tool.

Hold down shift to ensure the circle is perfectly round.

Try and open Window > Brushes.

In the panel set it to "Basic".

This will take away the brush.

Then open Window > Strokes to configure your stroke

Thanks Monika, I've tried this already, unfortunately it doesn't work. Both the circles below were created by selecting basic.

    Maybe it is something else.

Thanks, the line for the circle is created by a brush stroke, rather than a smooth edged circle. looks like this
