Help with Connecting Paths and Brush Overlap

Hi everyone!

I’m working on this project in Adobe Illustrator, and I’m running into two issues:

  1. Connecting Paths: I need to connect the two top paths so I can apply the same fill to the entire shape. However, I’m unsure how to join them or blend them into one cohesive path.
  2. Brush Overlap: I used the Pen Tool to add some elastic lines and then applied a brush stroke to them. However, the elastic lines are overlapping the trousers, and I’d like them to stay within the waistband area without spilling over.

Any tips on how I can tackle these issues? Thanks so much in advance!

Brush Overlap: I used the Pen Tool to add some elastic lines and then applied a brush stroke to them.

What I meant is that i used the Pen Tool to add 1 line, curved that to the shape of the waistband and then added a brush (pre configured)

And the wavy lines are the brush?

You could make a clipping mask to avoid spilling over.

And for creating the shapes, check out Live Paint or the shapebuilder tool.

Hey! Thanks for the tips.

I was able to get the line at the top but with creating a clipping mask, that part sadly doesnt work. The lines were all made with the pen tool and then added as a brush so that i could access it easier. Now if i try to curve the line it'll always spill out as soon as I assign a brush to it
