Help with hiding strokes

Hello, I'm fairly new to AI and am currently trying to solve this problem I have in the best way possible. I'm trying to duplicate these sheep (attached below) in a uniform way, but need a way to hide the "extra" lines behind the first sheep. I have been trying to use the erase tool but I'm sure there is a cleaner and more efficient way to achieve this. Does anyone have a good tip or tool for this purpose?

I'm having a similar issue with the legs as I need them to follow the shape of the "wool", I feel like both this issues are related and could be solved with a similar tool perhaps?

All my attempts end up looking sloppy...

Thank you!

Is that one path with a thick stroke or is it already outlined?

If it's not outlined, just take the scissors tool and click in two places to cut the path.

If it's already outlined, then the eraser tool is not completely inefficient.

It's a path with a thick stroke yes. Thank you! I'll give that a try!
