help with slicing a completed illustration

Hi I have completed an illustration and now wish to seperate it into large geometric shapes/panels that when folded will complte the illustration. I am having issues with doing it as I lose the image or detail and it will not seperate to the shapes I wish. The ilustration is made up of various paths and layers.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
