High memory usage at launch illustrator 2018

Hi there i am troubleshooting illustrator issue for one of my users. Version is illustrator CC 2018.

Problem is that the program uses amazing amounts of memory when its doing nothing. For instance, its currently using 12gb of memory just being open with nothing loaded.

Anyone care to speculate on the cause? I increased the users ram to 24GB but it all gets used very quickly. The screen shot below is when the program is just started with no files open. 13gb!

any guesses? machine is an apple imac 14,2 with latest osx.

I dont know alot about her workflow, so any comment probably helps.

And after a while running, it simply goes insane. 110gb? come on.. the machine doesnt have near that much ram... somethings really fishy.

    Problem was solved by deleting the preferences from the users library folder. I deleted all the preferences related to illustrator and had the system recreate. The trick where you hold down the control or apple button or whatever did not work. Manually deleting the preference files did.
