Hindi Characters Not Displaying Correctly

Hello,

I am trying to create an alphabet in Hindi, but the combined consonants are not displaying correctly. I've tried using Myriad Devanagari and Adobe Devanagari. They look fine when I plug them into Adobe Fonts online, but when I put them into Illustrator, they are broken apart. Screenshots attached.

To recap for users wanting a quick answer:

1. Go to Illustrator > Preferences> Type> Select "Indic Languages"

2. Go to the fly-out menu for "Paragraph", select "Middle Eastern & South Asian Every-line Composer"

3. Go to the character section, look for the drop down menu for the languages, and change it to "Hindi"

This usually happens because the document is using a legacy Hindi font (such as Shree Lipi or Kruti Dev) instead of Unicode, or the required font is missing on your system.

Here are a few things to check:

Verify whether the document was created with a legacy font or Unicode.
If it's a legacy font, simply changing the font won't fix the text because the character encoding is different.
If the original font is missing, install it first to see if the text displays correctly.
If you need to edit or use the document in modern applications, converting the legacy text to Unicode is usually the best long-term solution.
Also make sure the document was saved with the correct encoding and that your Adobe application is fully updated.

The original post mentions fonts used as Myriad Devanagari and Adobe Devanagari - which have unicode data points. So this does not appear to be a case of non-compliant fonts.

Illustrator now has the capability to compose text in any language / script, without making any changes in the UI. त्र should shape correctly with input as well as copy-paste. I am having an issue with extraneous charcacters appearing in hindi text. Please see screenshot. I am using the font Martel with ai v28 on mac OS 12.7.1. How can I resolve this issue?

I am also trying to develop an application for a website gyanibaba.net which will generate a PDF report with user's details in Hindi. Users will provide their bio-data information in just two lines and I'll use this AI and provide full bio-data. But facing some challenges with the Hindi Font.

Don't quote me on this, but I think you need to change the language that Illy is using.
