How can I make a seamless wave pattern in Adobe Illustrator that connects perfectly when wrapped around a cylindrical jar?
I’m working on a packaging/label design in Adobe Illustrator for a cylindrical jar. I created several custom wave patterns using Bezier curves, similar to the attached image.
The problem occurs when I place the artwork on a horizontal label and wrap the label around the jar.
The left and right edges of the label need to meet, but the waves don't continue seamlessly from one edge to the other. At the joining point, there is a visible break/kink because the wave curves at the right edge don't naturally continue from the curves at the left edge.
I want the final result to look like the wave pattern is one continuous piece of artwork, with no visible seam when the label wraps around the jar.
I'm specifically looking for an Illustrator workflow that would allow me to:
- Make the wave artwork seamlessly repeat horizontally
- Ensure the curves at the right edge continue perfectly from the left edge
- Maintain the same wave spacing, direction, and curvature at the seam
- Apply the technique to multiple groups of custom waves like the ones shown in my image
- Ideally create this as a reusable seamless pattern/tile that I can use for different label sizes
I understand that simply aligning the endpoints isn't enough because the curves also need to have matching direction/tangency at the seam.
What is the best way to create this type of seamless wave pattern in Adobe Illustrator?
Would you recommend using Pattern Make, Blend, Transform, clipping masks, or another technique?
