How can I replace changed PDF (edited in Illustrator) without losing click-ability link of old PDF

I made some corrections in Illustrator based on client feedback and now need to update the PDF. The issue is that the original PDF had clickable index page numbers and URLs, but those are lost after exporting the new version. The layout and placement remain the same.

Is there a way to retain all the clickable elements from the old PDF in the updated one? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If the nature of a project requires all that kind of stuff, then it looks like a job for InDesign rather than Illustrator.

From the top of my head, you can save your updated PDF as a separate file and use Replace Pages in Acrobat to keep the links and replace the content.
