How do I color in this live traced image?

I live traced this rampant lion. I now need to color in all the white areas with red.

I tried to use a clipping image (red rectangle) but it said it was too complicated.

Select the object.

Choose the Live paint tool.

Select the red color

Click once into the lion to make it into a live paint object

Triple click one of the parts that are still unfilled to fill all other unfilled parts.

Expand if you need to.
