how do i enable the texture effects in illustrator cs2?

Im working on some art work in adobe illustrator cs2 and i cant seem to use the texture function. its currently unavailable for some reason. im trying to add a graintexture to a gradient shape. please help! when i go to effects and then down to texture i cant select any of the options. help please!

CS2 is so long ago.

Please try the following:

copy your object.

create a new file in the color mode RGB.

Paste your object

Try to apply the effect?

Does it work? In that case the color mode would be the issue. Mind that you cannot simple paste the object back into the other file.
