How do I envelope distort an image to a shape on the horizontal plane of the perspective grid?

When I do this the raster image distorts into the shape and doesn't 'fit' it correctly. When going through the process on either of the vertical planes it is fine, but on the horizontal plane I just can't get it to match up. Any ideas?

I am basically following the process in this video, but want to put my image on the floor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8M8P6lhRnwg

Please help comrades!

The video mentions that you cannot resize it to fit correctly once you have applied the envelope command. Have you tried making sure your shape is the correct size first and lining up your image before applying Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Top Object?

Does this look like what you want?

Yes that's exactly what I want. The image and the shape are identical sizes but when I do the envelope distort it doesn't drop into the shape like that, it goes at a weird angle, almost 90 degrees to how I want it to. As you can see in the pics below, I want the image to go in portrait to the shape. When I initially created the shape that is on the grid it was exactly the same dimensions and alignment as the image.

The envelope is built incorrectly.

You first have to add an anchor on the distorted rectangle. I've added one here, but doesn't matter:

Then select the 4 corners with direct selection tool:

Object > Create Gradient mesh

Rotate your photo and select it and the mesh you just made, then Object > Envelope > Make with top object

Et voila:
