Adobe Illustrator will not allow me to use images downloaded from Whatsapp. When I try to import them there is an error. Can explain why or give a quick work around that won't cost me extra time.

They may be images from a phone which can be in 16 bit mode. You might need to try opening them in Photoshop and resaving them as 8 bit JPG or PNG.

Can Illustrator please fix this problem? It's super annoying to always have to edit the files in some other program before we can import them into Illustrator. I open them in Windows Photos (quicker than having to wait for Photoshop to open), just crop and resave them. Once that's done, they open in Illustrator.

Several people have reported that it's not possible to directly import images you have received via Whatsapp. There is possibly already a feautre request on Uservoice. But for now you have to convert the images.

If you are using a Mac, you can work around this problem by using Preview software. You open the image in the software and export it in JPEG-2000 or PNG format. You can then import it into Illustrator without any problems.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
