How do i knockout one image traced image through another?

I am using Illustrator.

I was given a logo that i image traced (because it looked bad) and now i need to knock that out of another image that i image traced (i did the sketch in photoshop and wanted the lines to look better.) and have filled in the area with live paint - yellow. 

every time i try to knockout the logo, the logo just disapears, not knocking it out.

can someone help me?

    Wolf,

     

    As I (misunderstand it, you can obtain it by turning the first (traced) image fully black (you can do that in Photoshop) as one path or as grouped paths, and also make sure it is on top of the second one, then simply select all and click Make (Opacity) Mask in the Transparency panel with both Clip and Invert Mask unticked; you can also make it white and have Invert Mask ticked.

    Here is a screen shot.

     

    I drew the beaver and i coudnt figure out how to knockout the lil logos in illustrator so i put it through photoshop and turns out it is far easier to figure out photoshop (for me anyways) than illustrator. But now i cant make the yellow spot color for the overprint view.

     

    is there a way to knock out the little logos (that are pngs)?

    Wolf,

     

    As I (mis)understand it, you may (still) use Opacity Masks (click Make Opacity Mask in theTransparency palette flyout with both Clip and Invert Mask unticked.
