I have looked and combed the internet on how to achieve this.... I am at a loss. Is there a known tutorial somewhere that can tell me how to create this exact star with the shading that is so realistic?

The fill is a pattern.

Then you will need to overlay some objects for the shadows in the edges.

Then apply a brush to get the sewing at the edge.

You might look on Lynda.com for tutorials on fashion design. Lynda.com is a paid service.

You might also try and search for free tutorials on youtube. Fashion design would be the keyword there.
