how to

I created a complex trading card, but it has become just one piece of art. I can no longer make changes. I tried unlocking and ungrouping but it is no longer many parts.  When I try to attach my files here I receive a correction that my attachment's content type (application/postscript) doesn't match its file extension which is .ai  I built the art in Illustrator so why do I get this correction?
