How to Apply the Warp Arch Effect to an ai/pdf Linked File

Hi guys,

I am trying (please see attachment) to achieve the effect of the square on the right on the ai linked file on the left.

When I click Warp → Arch with the image selected and change setting nothing happens, even with the preview box ticked. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Warp effect wont work on linked Illustrator files. You need to embed it first.

Is there still no feature that allows warping of linked files in ai or indd or anywhere in the adobe suite of things? That seems insane considering there is so much shaped/tapered packaging. embedding files seems crazy. I have done it a few times but it adds hours. I thought I was being a particular idiot today when I couldn't sort it without embedding the images and replacing them inside the warp one by one...

Photoshop with Smart objects?

This is for a Mockup, right?

No it's an 8 page print file for a tabpered tube label that changes once every few days. I figured out the long way . Export original artwork to jpg import those into the bottom layer of the existing warp embed replace the warped file on each of my 8 pages and do it again and again... I wish it was a mock-up life would be easy. But photoshop if memory serves isn't keen on multi page projects and cutting path files. 😞
