Hi there genious people,

I have hundreds of jpgs that needs to image trace in illustrator and turn into pngs. The first wall is the fact that Artboards needs to fit to artwork bounds is there a solution to get that into an action or script and do that once for the whole batch?

Thank you beforehand!

To get that command into an action, you have to use Insert Menu Item from the Actions panel menu to get it into the script.

Hello all. This solution works very well for a file with one artboard, but I am interested in resizing multiple artboards in the same file.

If there are multiple artboards with their own artwork inside of them and you run Fit to Artwork Bounds, it just resizes artboard number 1 to contain all of the artwork in the entire file.

I know I could select the artwork inside of each artboard and apply Fit Artboard to Selected Art for each one individually, but I'm looking for a more automated process.

Does anyone have any ideas/info about this?

Thank you!

There may be automated ways.

If you can share a meaningful sample .ai file, it would be easier to think about possible approaches.

Also, which version of Illustrator are you using?

Also trying to do this with a bunch of black and white bitmapped Tiff files. Bridge makes you select a document profile, but I want it to use the artboard that would be created in illustrator if I opened the tiff in illustrator. The images vary in size greatly, so it's important to use the artboard.

Hi you master,

Could you tell me what is the problem when I'm using image trace for jpg.( black and white line art drawing with red high lights). Illustrator works perfectly when I choose Tracing Presets 3 colour option it works for single image but when I record it into action it makes image black and white?

There was a thread recently about the problem that only the default Black and White setting could be recorded in an action.

Maybe you could first use Adobe Bridge to select the images and use in Bridge: Tools > Illustrator > Image Trace... to convert the images and save them in a folder.

When that is done use a Batch action in Illustrator to select the content, fit to Artwork bounds and export as PNG.
