How to blend colors with PNGs?

I'm trying to place copies of a PNG into an artboard to get a uniform background color, but I can't figure out how to blend the color line between the images--which is seen at the bottom of the image which is the bottom of the artboard. Am I having trouble blending because these are PNGs? Thanks for any suggestions.

Illustrator is a vector application. Images are best edited in a pixel application like Photoshop.

Get rid of the background in Photoshop annd bring the result as a transparent PNG in Illustrator.

Or create a clipping mask around the image in Illustrator and place it on a vector background.

You could try cutting out the hammer and adding a shadow and background manually but I would expand background in Photoshop and place into Illustrator if you need to.
