How to convert a complex Photoshop Logo into a Clean Vector Logo in Illustrator

Hi there friends! So, I have been using Photoshop for over 20yrs but always struggled with Illustrator. I am working on a logo project and having more issues than usual. I started in Photoshop by creating my logo as a work of art to then use as a reference to get to a vector based logo. Now my paths are so complex and I am all around lost in it. Any advice would be appreciated! I tried image trace and that was even more difficult for me. I even tried Kittl but I loathe AI and that didnot work either. I am uploading my art ( a Tanuki themed therapist in a chair sipping on a coffee) and then I am uploading what I have so far as a vector logo of it. Thank you! Stef

Hi @Stefani_D,

How much detail are you wanting to keep? For a logo, simple is best. If you're okay with simplifying it, the best tool to use is the pen tool and trace out the shapes (from your original image) and areas that are various colours. This will give you a really clean look for your logo.

If you're happy with your image trace, though, you can try "select" > "same fill color" and try merging groups of the same colour together to help with the clean-up. You can also try to smooth and simplify paths.

@Tina_Irvine Thank you so much!!! I truly appreciate your advice and support. I think I will just start over trying the pen tool and tracing by hand that you suggested.
