How-to Copy parent layer with linked variables to a new file

I need a technical title block for my work on Illustrator. I created a template in Illustrator, using an XML export of the variable file, and it works perfectly—EXCEPT that when I copy the title block and paste it into my document, the variables are no longer linked. (The same thing happens when I use the Illustrator library.)

Does make a copy of your working file and pasting the other content into it work better?

Once the element is pasted, it loses all variable references, so it's impossible to change the information via the XML file

I was not thinking about pasting the variables, but to create a duplicate of your file with the working variables and paste the new content into it.

As far as I remember, copying variable bound objects and then pasting them has unfortunately never preserved the corresponding datasets for the pasted objects.

But I may be wrong. Do you remember any Illustrator version that was capable of doing it?

Maybe, but it would be really helpful to have some automated processes for our files. It would save a tremendous amount of time and reduce the number of potential errors.

Especially since I don't really see the point of these variables if they don't retain the link after being copied...
