Question

how to distort a placed image in Illustrator 2022

hi,

i've taken a photo of a sewing pattern that i want to make a copy of so i don't cut through the various different sizes. so i need to adjust the perspective as i didn't use a tripod so my camera was not completely flat so the image is distorted. i have a 1in grid over the image and a 1 in grid the pattern was sitting on in the photo to enable me to match the 1in squares (see the picture). i'm trying to use the transform tools but the free distort tool, which i think would be most useful only drags the blue line corner and drops it back when i let go of the mouse button. what am i doing wrong please?

You might probably get better results with Photoshop's lens distortion filter, which has been made for this kind of task.

I would rather go for a better photo (or a scan)
