How to export placed item as PNG

I have a placed item in a document that's a PDF file. Is there a way to export that as a PNG image?

I found the "exportFile" function on the document object but that exports the entire document as a PNG file. I want to just export a PDF file as a PNG whether it's the file itself or on the placed item.
