Question

How to insert TEXT into an IMAGE

Hello there,

I need to insert TEXT into an image I found on the internet. (Text into a house image) Is there any way to do that in Illustrator?

I cannot find any tutorials to do that. I find text into shape or a graphic into text.

Do I need to convert that image into a shape?! How do I do that?!

I have tried tracing the jpg but I have no idea how to make it into a shape,

If anyone has a step by step way to do it, I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Create an Illustrator file at the desired size, place an image into it (File> Place) and adjust the size and position. Go to the type tool, add some copy, adjust size, position, font, save-as pdf. InDesign is also a good option. Photoshop is not the best option when type is involved although it can be done.

defaultr,

If you just need text on top of the image, you can simply type it and adapt it.

If you need some masking where parts of the image are hidden by the text (maybe with a  surrounding gap or something, that is also possible with a customized Clipping/Opacity Mask.

And there may be other Illy options, depending on the desired outcome.

A screenshot/elaboration may help helpers help you further.

Thank you, Jacob,

I'll try some of these ideas. I think Photoshop is the tool for this one, however.

Maybe Photoshop is the better tool for you to edit images?

That's what I was thinking. Somehow, it seems Illustrator would have something so basic built into it.

I just want to make sure that the final image will be sharp and ready for printing.

Thank you.

Still. if someone else has another idea, I'll check it out.

Or something like this:

Object > Envelope Distort > make with top object
